A VOST Portugal - Association of Digital Volunteers in Emergency Situations, is a registered, non-profit Civil Protection Association, which was informally born in August 2018 during the Monchique fires.

The group of citizens that emerged to fill the information gap during the Monchique fires was not planned to grow, or even remain active. However, the Hurricane Leslie showed the need to inform, in real time and on social networks, about what I was going through.

After Hurricane Leslie, a VOST Portugal is invited to join the network of European VOST teams (VOST Europe), led at the time by Laurent Alfonso.

On 16 October 2019, and after several activations – namely the project “No longer able to supply” – VOST Portugal formally becomes a fully-fledged association.
